The last of the four themes of the Topshop Fall 2009 collection, the “Manhattan Cocktail” collection. Inspired by 80s power-dressing and cocktail party glamour, Manhattan Cocktail relies on exaggerated shapes and show-stopping colours, fabrics and textures. Silhouettes are emphasised; structured jackets are key, body con dresses in simple jersey are ignited by shoulder pads, and bandeau tops and dresses in leather are corseted and flare out at the waist. Flashes of magenta, turquoise, silver and gold decorate party dresses and mini skirt whilst a jet black beaded mini dress with mesh panels on the front and back has instant sex appeal. A leopard print jersey t-shirt adorned with gold studs and gem stones brings the glamour from the evening through to daywear. A black hooded body with shoulder pads worn with sequinned relaxed harem trousers epitomises sport luxe. Animal print is throughout; multicoloured leopard print appears on skirts and jersey and mock croc ankle boots emanate ‘over the top’ glamour. Gold highlights accessories with large buckles on shoes, gold leather clutch bags and wide statement belts.
The collection is starting to hit Topshop stores and Topshop.com starting now, so keep an eye out if you’re diggin’ any of these looks. Do you love it? Which pieces must you own?
In case you missed the other three themes. Which is your favorite(s)? Mine is def Horror Girls!:
