As mentioned previously, Topshop‘s fall/winter 2009 collection is separated into four themes and you’ve seen the “Horror Girls” and “Marianne” look books already, now let’s take a peek at the “Highland Fling” collection.

“Highland Fling” is the traditional Scottish casual clothing meets English eccentric; classic tartans in black watch check are oversized and cut-about to give a modern twist and kilts appear distressed with hoiked up hems. Luxurious knitwear has an heirloom and handcrafted quality to it and is brought up to date with enlarged or reversed Fair Isle patterns, whilst a highland stag brings a light hearted slant. Casual coats are designed with the great outdoors in mind; in moss green, royal blue and brown, they are waxed or have quilted panelling. A collection of military inspired smart coats include a maxi trench in sand and a double breasted check coat is made from a cosy tactile yarn. Prints soften the heavy outerwear; check shirts are muted on brushed cotton and antique roses add a feminine touch, whilst thistles continue the Scottish theme. Sturdy tan leather ankle boots with red laces and soft suede calf-high boots with leather wrap strapping are reminiscent of hiking boots. Chunky knit bobble hats and scarves are playful in lime, coral and purple or bright fair isle. Lots of cute stuff as usual.

The collection is starting to hit Topshop stores and Topshop.com starting now, so keep an eye out if you’re diggin’ any of these looks. Do you love it? Which pieces must you own? Stay tuned for more pics…
