The Scene
This latest endeavor from the owners of popular Lure and Lever House restaurants reimagines the 1940s Chinese banquet hall as downtown hot spot. Large parties of on-the-prowl singles focus their attention past ivory columns, ornately decorated screens and oversized red-and-white lanterns in hopes of glimpsing “Page Six” regulars. The see-and-be-seen coup? Two A-shaped doors leading to the kitchen, which create the impression of peering eyes. Service is pleasant, if a bit hovering. – CitySearch

After hitting up the NORT x Diet Pepsi – Premium Good Party, Mimi, Hawaii Mike, YM and I (Keiko joined later) hit up Chinatown Brasserie for dinner. At first I was skeptical about going there b/c I’ve heard it wasn’t that great and it was overpriced (I seriously would of never gone there voluntarily). The restaurant is huge with red/white lanterns hanging, it def reminded me of the “old days”. The decor and ambiance was nice and upscale with the majority of the menu made up of dim sum, different dim sum from the ones I’ve had in Chinatown and Hong Kong. The prices were overpriced for uninteresting dishes and if you’re thinking “family style”, you’re at the wrong spot (stereotype for Chinese food). Overall the food didn’t amaze me, it was decent I would come back for some dim sum and that’s about it but I refuse to pay $19 for General Tso’s Chicken, that’s just ridiculous! Thanks for dinner MIMI! Peep the pics after the jump…
