US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach – Part 2

After the eventful first day in Huntington Beach, the second day of the tour was a bit more relaxed with optional morning surfing lessons or a trip to Laguna Beach to visit the 225 Forest retail space.  I chose the latter and browsed the West Coast Nike Action Sports retail space with products from Converse, Cons, Hurley, Nike 6.0 and Nike SB. After returning from Laguna Beach was free time to enjoy the event spaces at the beach to watch either skate, BMX or surfing and if one wanted, just explore. I took the opportunity and checked out all three of the major sports. Half way through the middle part of the day, I, through some luck ended up back stage of the entertainment main event for the concert with Hot Hot Heat and Weezer. Hot Hot Heat was great and got the crowd prepared for the final act. Weezer put on an amazing show with lead singer Rivers Cuomo spending a good part of the concert interacting with the crowd. And that ended the tour of the US Open of Surfing this past weekend but at night we enjoyed a nice dinner in Newport Beach followed by the Maloof Money Cup after party at Sutra.

The 225 Forest retail space in Laguna Beach featuring products from Converse, Cons, Hurley, Nike 6.0 and Nike SB.

The 255 Forest store included a customization lab where you can add a print on almost anything flat including, shorts, jackets, t-shirts and even sneakers.

Watching surfing can be just another relaxing day at the beach with many taking up spots in front of the competition.

A massive crowd gathered in front of the main stage as Hot Hot Heat was setting up to go on.

While backstage, I had the pleasure of meeting Hurley founder Bob Hurley who was also very nice.

After Hot Hot Feet and before Weezer, the crowd was a bit restless.
