Last night Artistic Director of Christian Dior, Raf Simons and the house of Dior showed their Cruise 2015 collection at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where the banks of the East River was the setting for the show. The interior of the venue featured mirror and LED with reflected animations of floating scarves, the collection’s inspiration.
Some of the celebrities in attendance include: Rihanna, Helena Christensen, Laetitia Casta, Lauren Santo Domingo, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, Leelee Sobieski, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Marion Cotillard, of course head-to-toe in Dior.
“America is a constant inspiration for me,” says Raf Simons. “The pop culture, the energy, the fluidity… there is just something so alive here. What I always like in America is that there is such a melting pot of styles. But there is always a look – a strong look. Whether it is uptown or downtown, East or West coast, there is always a strength and reality to how women dress here.”
The collection’s leitmotif is the silk scarf, or the French carré. The carré’s geometry is often borrowed for the construction of garments and the scarf’s hand-painted patterning for their supple decoration. The “squares” layered to create a silk dress is pretty amazing, really feminine and unique. The silk wrapped sandals are really good too. Great collection.
