My second show on New York Fashion Week Fall 2009 Day 4 (02.16.2009) is to Toni Maticevski at the Altman Building. I wasn’t sure what to expect since it was my first time seeing his show, but I was assured that I wouldn’t want to miss this. As I sat down I spotted Solange Knowles, Patricia Field, Poppy Delevingne and Carson Kressley were getting interviewed by the press. The show started late and I missed two other shows and presentations but it was totally worth it, the collection was absolutely stunning, luxurious and fabulous! I was going a bit crazed about the shoes, the details in the back are pretty amazing. The collection featured a range of evening and coctail dresses, beaded jackets and use of lots of sequins, metallics, silk, lace and feathers. I spotted Solange snapping away pictures too, I wonder which piece she’s thinking of wearing out soon?
For the inspiration of the fall collection Maticevski said, “Not much. Not much only because it isn’t clear to me. Everything seems to come together. Some things have to come together – a beaded dress or feathered coat just happen. I can’t say that I think about it too much, to say I do would feel like sitting in a classroom where ideas are boxed and deliberate, unnatural and not real. You may see elements of tribal costume, Aristocratic elements, restraint and embellishment, but it’s what you don’t see that I care about a lot more.”
