Crackdown on Canal Street Counterfeit Stores…

It was a shock when I read WWD on Tuesday morning that the police raided and closed three buildings occupying a Chinatown block selling counterfeit goods. Police closed 32 storefronts and fenced off the entire block of Canal Street buildings. $1 million in knockoff accessories and fragrances were seized during the operation, labels including Prada, Fendi, Coach, Rolex, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Calvin Klein — and even Dora the Explorer. This is not the first time counterfeit stores have been raided, I don’t see this coming to an end anytime – perhaps if they’ve tackled down on the landlords the “Counterfeit Triangle” will seek another location. But this operation have def shook the counterfeit business and they’ve encountered a huge loss, but I’m sure they will rise again soon.

Yesterday I passed by Canal Street while grocery shopping with my mom and noticed the restraining orders on the gates of the storefronts it was a relieve actually, I wasn’t harassed by counterfeit sellers to go in and buy fake handbags for once. Let’s just see how long this lasts…

More pics after the jump…
