[While I was in Hong Kong, my friend Doris and I have decided to do a detox together. I’ve introduced her to the new juice cleanse in HK called BE-JUICED and here’s her review enjoy. ~ Wendy]

When people talk about detox the first thing that comes to mind is purposefully starving yourself… I have never 100% committed to one because the idea to not eat any food for a solid five days – is daunting. There are tons of mixed reviews–one of which was speculated that your body goes into hibernation mode and starts storing fat…wth? And here I am thinking I can shed a few stubborn pounds *cries*!

I live in Hong Kong and the first few years I abused myself. I partied, I drank… I worked late, I hit the tables and danced on them and I came home when my well behaved neighbors were just waking up. It took a toll… If that was not enough I decided to do some MORE damage to my body by just starving it and only drinking juices… Obviously, I hit and missed. Without proper research, I just dived into juices I blended on my own. During those long days I was a caged witch. I was hungry, annoyed, cranky (that didn’t change, I’m normally cranky anyways) and just absolutely depressed. I was tired and weak, not feeling cleansed at all. I wanted those couple days of my life back and on the night of my last day I dived into a big Sichuan feast that would have even impressed Genghis Kan. I hurled and as I did I vowed never to do it again.

Now, two years older, wiser, calmer and much smarter.. I decided to give it another go. My friend, Wendy introduced me to ‘BE-JUICED‘ a juice detox company in Hong Kong. ‘BE-JUICED’ sent me some information days prior to my cleanse of the do’s and don’ts. God knows I needed that based on my last experience. So I took in all the info and I followed the instructions diligently. I had to go through what they call an ‘easing in’ phase basically a few days of clean eating – fruits, veggies, and no alcohol – as raw as possible.

The following Monday, like Santa came early and couldn’t find the chimney in Hong Kong apartment buildings… On my doorstep was a box of juices. I told myself. “Doris you must get through these six days…” With motivation from Wendy, I was going to tough this out for real.

Day 1 & Day 2 was quite difficult but surprisingly I didn’t feel especially hungry except for the munchies. Lucky for me, ‘BE-JUICED’ had list of cheat foods so I was nibbling on nuts all throughout the process…

My first series of juices were called ‘Grounding’ and it did exactly that. They were juices with a combination of fruits, vegetables and nuts. My favorite was Milkilicious – it was a nutty drink but it kept me full and satisfied. The combination of these juices and the fact that I had a bottle of juice every 2 hours made me very full. Think the only downside the first 2 days was that I was getting light headed from caffeine withdrawal. It was not easy to have to go to work with nothing in your stomach so I ended up leaving early on most days.

Day 3 was when I felt the DETOX working, I woke up feeling a renewed light of energy. I was bouncing off the walls like never before. It felt great, my yoga practice was deeper, my head was clearer, my headache was gone, and felt like I was bursting with energy all throughout the day. It was simply amazing.

Day 4/5 continued the same way but different set of juices ‘Veggication’ mostly greens. Name says it all; juices were mainly made from veggies. Taking green vegetables in juice form really sucked ass – it’s good for you but just really umm… GREEN. I carried on anyway and of course being a yogi I never stopped my yoga practice. They recommended that I should do light exercises but I kept on going with my hot power vinyasa yoga which I cannot live without. Instead of lacking energy or feeling tired I was able to do stronger and deeper poses like never before. I even did a headstand without the wall for a good minute or two – now that’s amazing. I wasn’t sure if it was the juice, or just the sudden surge of energy and confidence that I had.

Day 6 came around and I was surprised I didn’t feel the way I felt two years ago. Instead it was on the opposite spectrum of what I had experienced. I went to a farewell dinner (no, I didn’t gorged on food like I did last time) that weekend and all my friends said I was glowing.

I told all of them of my experience and now they want to try! I told them ‘BE-JUICED’ is my go to detox from here on out – I may now even commit to doing this on a yearly basis. I mean we put so much sh*t in our body – we have to give it a rest every now and then. BE-JUICED – thank you for such an awesome experience… until our next SPRING cleaning!
